Bartec Partners with Birmingham City Council

Birmingham City Council is the largest Council in Europe, and it collects waste and recycling from 1 million citizens in over 360,000 households. Over 600 employees operate this service, including 74,000 garden waste subscriptions and 2,500 paid bulky waste collections per month.

The Council needed to engage with a strategic solution provider to digitally transform and enable intelligence-driven working practices within Waste Services. The aim is to transform services and overhaul processes to not only meet industry best practice, but save considerable costs, improve safety and benefit the residents of Birmingham.

Transforming Waste and Recycling

Bartec Municipal Technologies are delighted to have been chosen as the technology and solutions provider for this transformation project with Birmingham City Council.

As the Council’s waste management service transitions to include food waste, new collection patterns and optimised routes, the Collective system will provide crews and the management team with the information and tools they need to deliver an outstanding service.

The fleet of 200 vehicles, including 150 brand new ones, will be fitted with the Collective in-cab system, integrated with live cameras and telematics. Connected in real-time to the Collective back-office system and integrated with Birmingham City Council’s Brum account, the system will enable the council to continually improve and optimise operations, and let residents access improved information about their services.

Introducing Safer Working for Crews

Not only does Collective improve services for residents, our safer working features ensure that the crew’s wellbeing and safety is prioritised at all times. Crews can report safety concerns, receive up-to-date information about hazards and even access online resources for mental health and wellbeing.
