Bartec Secures Over £1.3m in New Contracts as Councils Invest in Waste Management Technology
Bartec Municipal Technologies has ended 2025 on a high note, securing over £1.3 million in new contracts and orders in the final weeks of the year, as local authorities across the UK invest in technology to meet evolving waste management challenges.
The contract wins span the length and breadth of Britain, from Scotland to the South Coast, demonstrating the level of demand for Bartec waste management solutions as councils prepare for new Simpler Recycling legislation and ambitious environmental targets.
Major Four-Year Contracts
Three substantial four-year contracts highlight the confidence councils are placing in our waste management software, Collective:
North Lanarkshire Council has signed for a full Collective system to transform waste and recycling collections and street scene operations, marking a significant expansion of our presence in Scotland.
Luton Borough Council will extend their Collective system following a successful route optimisation project. The contract will cover waste and recycling, trade waste, clinical waste, street scene operations and grounds maintenance, demonstrating Collective’s versatility across multiple service areas.
Fareham Borough Council, one of our first Resident’s Portal customers for garden subscriptions, is rolling out Collective across their entire waste and recycling operation. This will give residents a complete online facility for managing their collections.
With Portsmouth City Council and Havant Borough Council also using Resident’s Portal, the system is now well-established across Hampshire.
Fleet Expansions and New Implementations
South Lanarkshire Council has further enhanced their long-standing Collective system by adding 38 new vehicles to their in-cab fleet, building on years of successful partnership with Bartec.
Nottingham City Council has committed to enhancing crew safety by signing up for Bartec’s SafeActive safety management system, which will be deployed across 37 refuse vehicles.
Refuse collection remains among the most dangerous jobs in the UK, and the move demonstrates growing recognition of the need to protect frontline workers.
Route Optimisation Gains Momentum
Three councils have signed up for our new Collective Transport Planner route optimisation system:
North Warwickshire Borough Council
All three will implement the software across their refuse fleets to improve service delivery, safety and operational efficiency through intelligent route planning.
Growing Demand for Integrated Solutions
Tim Hobbs, CEO of Bartec Municipal Technologies, said: “It’s been a fantastic end to the year. These contracts demonstrate that councils across the UK are recognising the value of integrated technology platforms in delivering efficient, resident-focused waste management services.
“As local authorities prepare for Simpler Recycling and work towards the government’s 65% recycling target by 2035, having the right technology infrastructure is no longer optional. We’re proud to be supporting councils from Scotland to the South Coast in meeting these challenges.”
The contract wins come at a pivotal time for UK waste management, with Simpler Recycling legislation now in force and councils required to provide consistent collection services across all waste streams, including mandatory food waste collections from March 2026.
Expanding Our Services in Scotland
At Bartec, we are particularly excited about expanding our presence in Scotland by securing a four-year contract with North Lanarkshire Council and enhancing our involvement with South Lanarkshire Council, as this helps to cement us as a leading UK-wide provider of waste management solutions.
We hope that their success leads to more partnerships in the future to improve waste management across the UK.
